Château de Vaux et sa chapelle - Jarzé Villages

Château de Vaux in Chaumont d'Anjou (Jarzé Villages) is a seigniorial building mentioned in writings as early as 1300.

Just a few strides from Chaumont d'Anjou in the heart of the Anjou countryside, Château de Vaux is entirely surrounded by a moat. The current château was rebuilt in 1821 by the architect Desnoyers on the cellars of a former 14th century château. At the time, the medieval dwelling was surrounded by an enclosing wall with pepper-pot towers; part of the fortifications, the entrance châtelet and three pepper-pot towers still bear witness to this period. You can also still admire a remarkable "relics" chapel built in 1298 and dedicated to Saint-Georges, and enhanced in 1510.

Château de Vaux has been listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1993.

The site and in particular the chapel are open to visitors in summer, as well as during the European Heritage Days.

Reservations are highly recommended, and group visits are possible all year round by prior arrangement with the owner.
