Château de Montmirail

This 15th-century medieval castle, listed as a Historic Monument and built on one of the highest points in the Sarthe, offers visitors a remarkable panorama. Overlooking the small, picturesque town of Montmirail, the castle invites you to take a journey through time and history...

Let us tell you about the attempt at reconciliation organised in 1169 by Louis VII the Younger, King of France, between Henry II Plantagenet, King of England, and Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.

Let yourself be guided in the footsteps of the Princesse de Conti, daughter of Louis XIV and Melle de La Vallière, who in the 18th century restored the Renaissance-inspired façade on the park side and furnished a Regency-style Salon and Dining Room that are now listed.

The visit always begins with the magnificent underground armoury, followed by the 15th-century dungeons, and ends in the park, from where the view over the old Perche-Gouët region is breathtaking.

Free visit of the parks and gardens only.
