Château de Segrais
Situated in the heart of the Sarthe countryside, the Château de Segrais is now home to the Kadampa Meditation Centre France (CMK France). This peaceful setting is a place of welcome and practice for anyone wishing to discover meditation or deepen their spiritual practice.
Built on the foundations of a feudal castle dating from before the 15th century, the current castle was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century. Its sober, elegant architecture features an east-west-facing main building surrounded by vast outbuildings. One of the eighteenth-century pavilions has been preserved in the north-east corner, while a moat encircles the property, providing a majestic setting for the terraces and gardens.
The château's chapel, with its intimate charm, features a wood-panelled vault and a magnificent 18th-century grey marble altarpiece, which is listed as a heritage site.
Château de Segrais is open every day of the week and offers a variety of activities and discoveries:
- Stroll and picnic in the verdant grounds.
- Visit the château and the meditation room, with its impressive Buddha statues.
- Discover the chapel and its listed altarpiece.
- Stroll around the shop, offering books and inspirational objects related to meditation and Buddhist philosophy.
Château de Segrais and the Kadampa France Meditation Centre offer a unique setting in which to recharge your batteries, discover meditation and explore an exceptional historical heritage. Whether it's just a visit or a longer stay, everyone will find a moment of peace and serenity here.
