CHÂTEAU DE MONTSABERT
A 13th and 14th century château with its Orangerie and chapel
The château is open during the season for guided tours only and offers an exhibition included in the tour. The château was founded by the Laval family in the 13th century on the foundations of an 11th and 12th century building. In the 15th century, under Bertrand du Guesclin, the château became a fortress, before being brought into line with the Renaissance, with the construction of the loggia and a false balustrade, and the raising of the courtyard walls. At the end of the 17th century, the windows were enlarged, the orangery and chapel were built and the southern rampart was razed to make way for a terrace with formal gardens.
