Eglise Notre-Dame-du-Pré
The finest Romanesque monument in Maine.
A former abbey of Benedictine nuns from the 11th to 18th centuries, it became a parish church during the French Revolution after the abbey disappeared. The purity of its style, the sculptures on its capitals and the intimacy of its crypt make Notre-Dame du Pré the finest Romanesque monument in Maine.During the Second World War, in 1944, the stained glass windows were destroyed (except for one) when the Pont en X exploded. The windows were rebuilt between 1948 and 1954 by Max INGRAND.
On 26 June 2024, the Fondation du Patrimoine and the town of Le Mans launched a fund-raising campaign for the restoration of Notre-Dame du Pré church. The work, costing more than €2 million, will restore the roof structure and roofing of this emblematic Le Mans building, as well as the masonry and ashlar. The fundraising target has been set at €50,000.
Donors can take part in the fund-raising campaign on the following page: www.fondationpatrimoine.org/100805
A tax receipt will be issued for all donations.
