COUVENT DES CORDELIERS
Overlooking the Loire Valley, the Cordeliers convent is located in the heart of the city, 40 metres above sea level on the Sillon de Bretagne. Founded in 1419 by Jean V, Duke of Brittany, the convent played a key role in the town's history. The monument that exists today is only the last remaining part of a vast complex that included a church, courtyard, cloister and gardens.
Having become national property in 1789, the convent was in turn transformed into a police station, prison, etc. After the war, the Post Office was transferred there until 1979. After a restoration campaign lasting until 2019, the site is now used for exhibitions, concerts and shows.
