CIMETIÈRE JACOSBEN
The island of La Crosnière, part of Barbâtre until 1772, is the final resting place of the men and women who colonised it, including C.-G. Jacobsen, the builder of the dykes and the reclamation project. It was in the second half of the 18th century that Corneil-Guislain Jacobsen built the first 6,000-metre-long dyke, in order to drain the land at La Crosnière and turn it into farmland.
Today, the island no longer exists, but the cemetery is still there and accessible.
