ILE DE FÉDRUN

On the island of Fédrun, discover an age-old tradition: the use of reeds to make thatched roofs, a characteristic feature of the Briéron habitat known as "chaumière".

The Brière Regional Nature Park is a veritable natural gem, made up of a multitude of islands separated by canals. Locals and visitors alike can cruise these peaceful waters aboard traditional barges, offering a unique experience to discover the heart of the Brière.

Situated right in the heart of the marsh, the commune of Saint-Joachim is a veritable showcase of nature, with no fewer than seven remarkable islands. Among them, the island of Fédrun, with its typical thatched roofs, is a real invitation to discover. It was on this island that the famous chef Eric Guérin chose to set up his restaurant, La Mare aux Oiseaux, offering a unique setting in which to enjoy exceptional dishes.

A walk around the island of Fédrun will transport you out of time and immerse you in an exceptional natural environment. The traditional dwellings with reed roofs offer a unique picturesque charm. Two of them are open to the public. The Bride's House, retracing wedding traditions in the 19ᵉ century, is a must-see to discover how orange blossom and wax wreaths are made.

La Chaumière Brièronne, meanwhile, is an authentic reconstruction of the interior of a Brièron home from the early 20ᵉ century, offering a unique immersive experience.

To make sure you don't miss out on any of the history of this little corner of the world, a guided tour entitled "Ile était une fois Fédrun" (Once upon a time in Fédrun) is available from 14 April to 30 September, bookable by contacting the Maison du Parc on 02 40 91 68 68. This guided tour allows you to discover the island's hidden treasures, for a total immersion in the beauty of the surrounding nature.


The Maison du Parc de Fédrun is open to the public from Sunday to Friday (closed on Saturdays).
Guided tours "Once upon a time in Fédrun" start on 14 April and run until 30 September.
Tours depart from the Maison du Parc de Fédrun every Monday to Thursday at 11.00 am and 3.00 pm. Tours depart from the Maison du Parc every Sunday at 11 am.

Free tour for families - please note that our thatched cottages each have one floor and are not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Animals are not allowed in the museum.
