BALADE AU CŒUR DE NANTES
The Château des Ducs de Bretagne awaits you at the start of this walk. Meet the various monuments and public spaces that have left their mark on the history of Nantes.
The Château des Ducs de Bretagne is just around the corner. With buildings dating from the 15th to 18th centuries, the château is a landmark of Nantes' urban heritage. The courtyard, the ramparts and the moat garden are all open to the public. A stone's throw away is the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul, built between 1434 and 1891.The walk will then take you to the Ile de Versailles. This 1.7 hectare artificial island, created in 1831 and originally occupied by tanners and shipwrights, was transformed into a Japanese garden in 1983. A real Zen break! There is also the Maison de l'Erdre, which hosts exhibitions devoted to the river and its aquatic environment.
Walk up Cours Saint André to the Jardin des Plantes, one of the very select group of 45 international 'gardens of excellence' for outstanding botanical collections. A must for nature lovers.
Finally, take a stroll along the Canal Saint Félix. On its banks, the former LU (Lefèvre-Utile) biscuit factory has been transformed into a lively cultural centre well worth a visit: le lieu unique (LU).
