TOUR SAINT-CLAIR À DERVAL
The only remains of the fortified castle of Derval, which had no fewer than 9 towers in the 12th century. Follow the trail and discover not only its history, but also that of the Marches de Bretagne, of which Derval was once a stronghold.
The only vestige of a 13th-century castle, the Tour Saint-Clair bears witness to the fact that Derval was once one of the strongholds of the Marches de Bretagne. In 1598, the Edict of Nantes condemned the castle, then a stronghold of the League, to demolition. The almost complete destruction was not carried out immediately, as the fortress was used as a prison for Protestants captured during the siege of Port-Louis in Morbihan. The site was later used as a stone quarry by the people of Derval.Information panels on site.
