This is a fine example of 17th-century architecture, well enhanced by a large lake, moat, woodland and garden. In 1793, it was used as a refuge by the Vendée royalists, particularly General Charette, who held receptions in the reception room. Denys de la Patelière shot the film "Le Tonnerre de Dieu" (God's Thunder) here with Jean Gabin.
