EGLISE SAINT PIERRE SAINT LONGIS - SAINT LONGIS

The village church is dedicated to Saint Pierre and Saint Longis. The latter, along with Saint Honoflète, are at the heart of a beautiful legend.

Founded in the 11th century, the Priory of Saint Longis was part of the Abbey of St Vincent du Mans. Its church became a parish church after the destruction of the former church of Saint Pierre.

The building, remodelled in the 19th century, retains elements of Romanesque origin: reuse of carved stone, chevet bay, triumphal arch between nave and choir.
Like many bell towers in the Saosnois region, the square bell tower is topped by a slate (not tiled) gable roof with two exposed gables.

Inside, the antependium of the high altar depicts Christ giving the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven to Saint Peter surrounded by the 12 apostles.
