CHAPELLE NOTRE-DAME LA BLANCHE
The chapel of Notre-Dame la Blanche, also known as Notre-Dame des Neiges. It was built on the site of a vast Merovingian cemetery.
The chapel was built in the 15th century on the site of a vast Merovingian cemetery, from which ancient sarcophagi have been extracted and are preserved in Nantes. It was built by Messire Maurice Fradet, the parish priest. During the French Revolution, it was used as a barracks for the Republican armies and witnessed the massacres recounted by history. Desecrated in 1793, it was restored and enlarged in 1855 thanks to Abbé Beaudineau. He placed the statue of St Radegonde, once venerated, in the church. The choir window depicts the Chemin Rouge mill, which was also the scene of revolutionary massacres. It was last restored in 1962.Contact
