Fours à chaux de Châteaupanne

Just 20 minutes from Angers and a few metres from the Loire and the Loire à Vélo cycle route, lime kilns still bear witness to the town's industrial activity. Some of them can be seen along the Monjtean sur Loire footpath.

Come and discover the lime kilns at "Montjean la blanche", some of which are listed as Historic Monuments. In total, there are no fewer than 23 lime kilns in the commune of Montjean sur Loire, spread over 13 production sites.

Lime kiln production has been documented in this small Loire town since the 15th century, and expanded considerably in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, a footpath within the town centre showcases them, and an 11.5-kilometre walk takes you around them. Please note that some ovens are located on private property.
