Écluse de Port Rhingeard
- HISTORY -
The old causeway at Port Rhingeard was used by a mill documented in 1446. After 1537, it was fitted with a marinière gate. Work to improve navigation on the Mayenne in the 19th century led to its demolition and replacement at the same location by a lock dam, built to plans drawn up in 1865 by the Ponts et Chaussées engineer Du Jardin. The work, followed by his successor Lahougue, was carried out by Joinville-le-Pont contractors Gabriel Robineau and Edme Léger, who were chosen in the tender held on 21 December 1867. Final acceptance took place on 31 March 1872. The lock house was extended at the end of the 20th century.

- May'Gourde 53 -
"May'Gourde 53" is a new scheme launched by Mayenne Tourisme, enabling tourists, visitors and local residents to fill up their water bottles while out and about in the Mayenne region, at one of more than 140 professional outlets.
The aim is to help reduce the use of plastic bottles for more sustainable tourism.
The lock is part of this scheme, so you can stop off to top up your water!
