LA BORDERIE DU MARAIS
Covering 70 hectares of wet grassland, the Borderie du Marais offers a typical landscape of ponds, reedbeds and bodies of water. This site, which has been awarded the "Espace Naturel Sensible" label by the Vendée department, is a real haven for biodiversity.
In spring, it is a favourite spot for a wide variety of waterfowl, such as the White Stilt, the Shoveler and the Common Coot. Mammals, dragonflies and frogs also thrive here.
A ten-year management plan ensures the preservation of this ecosystem by scheduling biological monitoring, environmental restoration work and raising public awareness of environmental issues.
This site illustrates the balance between protecting nature and developing the local area, in particular through the grazing activity that is essential to the upkeep of the marsh.
