Ile Batailleuse

A wild island steeped in history!

This island, bordering Saint-Florent-le-Vieil and Varades, is located at the ends of the Loire-Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire departments. Between two arms of the Loire, crossed by a border, Ile Batailleuse covers 171 hectares, 113 of which are in Loire-Atlantique, and is 4 km long and 730 m wide.

Witness to the Viking invasion in the 9th century and to various battles (including the Vendée Wars), Ile Batailleuse has a rich historical past.
