Musée du Textile et de la Mode
The former cloth bleaching plant, built in 1881, is one of the last remaining reminders of the textile industry in the city of the handkerchief.
Now a museum, it offers a rich and lively overview of the industry, revealing the stages in its manufacture from fibre to thread and from thread to fabric. In this exceptional industrial heritage site, demonstrators bring the looms back to life and pay tribute to the weavers who, from their cellars to the factories, saw the development of Cholet's cloth industry. This is also where you'll find the last production workshop for the traditional red handkerchief, the town's emblem.
Now the capital of children's clothing, Cholet still has a strong fashion identity. This is reflected in the museum's programming, which focuses on contemporary textile arts and children's fashion. The latter makes it an exceptional conservatory of children's clothing.
Tip: from 1 October to 31 May, Cholet's museums are free on Saturdays for everyone.
