Maison Julien Gracq

House of writing residencies and cultural events located in Maine-et-Loire, on the banks of the Loire and a stone's throw from the Loire à Vélo cycle route. Less than an hour from Angers and Nantes. Tours available.

The Maison Julien Gracq opens to the public from 2 April to 9 November 2025.

Visits to the Maison Julien Gracq will be possible on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, and on some Saturdays, from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5.30pm.

Julien Gracq, a writer and geographer born in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, bequeathed his property to the commune so that it could become a place of residence for his writing.

Since 2012, the Maison Julien Gracq has welcomed some fifty writers, artists and researchers in residence or on creative residencies.

The Maison Julien Gracq, located on the banks of the Loire, provides inspiration for the various residents of the house. It consists of the writer's family home, gardens and a medieval building, the "Grenier à sel", open to the public for guided tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 3pm.

Literary and artistic events in the Pays de la Loire region, as well as writing and reading workshops, are held there on a regular basis.

The "Grenier à sel" also houses an exhibition room, a fine library containing the works of the writer Julien Gracq and a room of cards evoking the life and work of the author, open to visitors free of charge from Wednesday to Saturday.
