Maison de la Rivière
In the north of Anjou, 30 km from Angers, the Maison de la Rivière traces the history of navigation in the Maine basin.
[Reservations required for groups of 12 or more].The Maison de la Rivière is a living account of a very ancient navigation system, the only one in France covering such a vast basin. For a thousand years it linked the historic provinces of Anjou and Maine.
This history is told to you by a passionate volunteer guide who, during the visit, uses a number of objects and media adapted to all audiences: authentic parts of a porte marinière, a collection of objects, reconstructions, a 12-metre model tracing the different river developments between the causeway and the mill, the porte marinière, the lock with sluice and the flour mill, not forgetting the acoustic corridor that plunges us into the life of the riverside residents at the heart of the conflicts of interest that prevailed in the 19th century.
