LA VILLA DUCHESSE ANNE
This villa, which looks like a small castle, is inseparable from the Breton coastline, and as you stroll around the Pins district, you won't want to miss its original silhouette.
The Duchesse Anne villa was commissioned by Georges Barreau, a famous sculptor from Paimboeuf.
He wanted a manor house facing the ocean for the bathing season. It was built between 1911 and 1913.
Its round tower topped by a pepperpot (which was recently rebuilt because the Germans had destroyed it) is characteristic of the neo-Gothic style in vogue at the beginning of the 20th century, reminiscent in many ways of the style of Viollet Leduc.
Georges Barreau, a fervent defender of Brittany, depicts the figure of Anne de Bretagne on the magnificently sculpted mantelpiece, as well as her coat of arms on the interior stained glass windows.
Duchess Anne's villa is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful on the Côte de Jade.
Please note that the villa is privately owned, so you can admire it from the outside, but it is strictly forbidden to enter.
The owner has set up an association to promote the villa, and only allows visitors on Heritage Days. (Bookings should be made at our tourist offices in mid-August).
