Espace Gaston Chaissac

Enter the poetic and colourful world of Gaston Chaissac in Sainte Florence, 30 minutes from La Roche sur Yon. Come and discover the "Boîte à sucre bleue", a scenography designed by Xavier de Richemont, retracing the work of the artist 30 minutes from the Puy du Fou.

Gaston Chaissac’s body of work is one of the most prolific and distinctive of the 20th century. As a draughtsman, painter, sculptor, writer and poet, he constantly reinvented words, created forms and repurposed everyday objects. He lived in Sainte Florence from 1948 to 1961 and left his mark there by painting the toilets of the old school, which have since been listed as a Historic Monument and can be seen during the tour.

Art workshops are available throughout the year, for children aged 3 and over.

- Guided tour ‘Gaston’s Break’ at 10.00 and 11.15 (booking required) during the summer and Zone B school holidays.
- 19 and 20 September: Heritage Days and an art walk on 20 September at 10.00.
- “Art-Bourg XXS” treasure hunt
- A walking and cycling route, “In the Footsteps of Chaissac”, free to follow, takes you on a journey through Gaston Chaissac’s correspondence. 17 km, starting from the Espace Gaston Chaissac and finishing at Place des Tilleuls in Sainte-Florence.
