Église Saint-Vénérand
Saint-Vénérand church is considered to be one of the most beautiful Renaissance churches in Laval.
A Renaissance masterpieceAt the end of the Middle Ages, the suburb of Pont-de-Mayenne developed on the left bank. The distance from their place of worship prompted wealthy canvas merchants to build a new building closer to home.
Lord Guy XV laid the first stone in 1485. The lower sections of the portal still bear witness to the flamboyant Gothic style of the late 15th century.
However, the church was extended from 1522, this time with contributions from the Second Renaissance. These include the upper part of the portal with its coffered arch, the heavy triangular pediment and lantern, and the coffered vault of the choir, completed in 1565.
