EGLISE SAINT RIGOMER ET SAINT RÉMY - SAINT RÉMY DU VAL

A magnificent listed church in a village rich in heritage discoveries!

Situated on the edge of the castle moat on a platform overlooking the Bienne valley, the church was rebuilt at the end of the Middle Ages, when a place of worship was already mentioned in documents dating back to 1009-1028.

It dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, with a defensive bell tower topped by a "bâtière" roof (2 opposite sides in the shape of a "bât") over 2 uncovered gables. This style of roof, dating from the 12th century or earlier, is fairly rare.

The single nave has 4 bays, with 15th-century Gothic vaults resting on slender columns without capitals. The choir has a flat chevet and its vaults rest on culottes. The transept is large.

The interior contains a wealth of furnishings listed as historic monuments: altarpieces of the Virgin of Pity and St Sebastian, Virgin and Child (15th or 11th century), high altar (18th century), choir screen (18th century), choir stalls (18th century) and Christ on the Cross (17th century).

The church is listed as a Historic Monument.
