Presentation of: Eglise Saint-Nicolas
When it was founded, the priory of Grues was a dependency of the Abbey of Saint-Michel-en-l'Herm. Gautier de Bruges, Bishop of Poitiers, mentions it in a text dating from before 1306. The old church, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, was burnt down by the Huguenots on 7 January 1569.
It was rebuilt in 1777. An inventory of the church furnishings was undertaken in 1794. As early as 1802, summary restorations were carried out and in 1869, following an inspection of the building, it was declared that the church "could only be supported by props". The church was blessed on 30 January 1881.
