Église Saint-Pontien - Marigné

In the heart of Anjou Bleu, this small church dedicated to Saint-Pontien was built in the 16th century on the foundations of an older chapel. Situated in the heart of Marigné, it is close to the River Mayenne.

Built in the 16th century, this charming church is built on the remains of a chapel dating from the 10th and 11th centuries, once attached to a castle. It thus bears witness to the continuity of religious occupation of the site since the High Middle Ages. The church was dedicated on 4 July 1512 and placed under the patronage of Saint Pontian, a martyr who was tortured in Rome in the 3rd century. Built on the banks of the River Mayenne, the church has a Latin cross plan, typical of religious architecture of the period. Its riverside location contributes to the site's charm and heritage interest.
