At the beginning of the 19th century, the parish had a smaller church located not far from where the present church stands. In 1845, the Conseil de fabrique declared it "too dilapidated to be repaired and too small to meet the needs of the ever-growing population". The reconstruction was therefore entrusted to Mr Levêque, an architect from Fontenay Le Comte. Work began in 1847 and lasted 3 years. Certain elements of the interior decoration of the old church were reused, such as the white marble high altar, the altars of the Virgin and Saint John the Baptist, the pulpit, the choir stalls and the large elm Christ, the work of the Nantes sculptor Grootaers-Donon. The project to complete the decoration was drawn up by Victor Clair, the departmental architect, and took place between 1850 and 1880. The stained glass windows depicting Saint Joseph, Saint Louis, Saint Joan of Arc and the Sacred Heart were installed in 1926. They were made by Luc Fournier, a glass painter from Tours.
