Église Saint-Aubin - Pouancé

The church of Saint-Aubin overlooks the village and pond of Saint-Aubin and is situated 1 km from Pouancé and its medieval castle.

At the gateway to Brittany, the village of Saint-Aubin predates that of Pouancé. Around 1110, the bishop of Angers, Renaud III de Martigné, ceded the church of Saint-Aubin to the abbey of Marmoutier, near Tours. The monks founded a priory close to the churchyard, in the Madeleine chapel.
In 1640, the church was refurbished to accommodate a particularly large number of clergy. In the 19th century, the building was enriched with an altarpiece depicting the Assumption of the Virgin, created by Delavente, and recently restored murals.
Today, the church is open all year round, allowing visitors to discover a religious heritage marked by several centuries of history.
