Presentation of: LE HOPE - VIEUX GREEMENT

It was built, all in wood, in Croix de Vie at the Didier Thomazeau shipyard, for the fisherman Israël Chevrier. The 14-metre boat was then used for trap fishing in the waters around Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and Ile d'Yeu (lobsters, prawns, etc.) until the end of the 1960s, when it was decommissioned.
Used for pleasure boating, it was then bought by the town of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie in 1988 and entrusted in 1989 to the Suroit association for maintenance (restored in 2011) and navigation. The aim of this association is to conserve and enhance the HOPE. Classified as a historic monument on 19 January 1998, the HOPE has since taken part in a number of events, including the Fête du Nautisme and the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine (European Heritage Days). It also takes part in a number of meetings of old sailing ships, representing Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.
