Covering an area of 716 ha, this state-owned forest extends over the communes of St Symphorien, Neuvillette en Charnie, Parennes, Tennie and Ruillé en Champagne. Most of the forest is made up of broadleaved trees, with noble species such as oak, hornbeam, beech, aspen, chestnut, etc. mixed in with a variety of softwoods: Douglas fir, Nordmann fir, maritime pine, laricio pine, etc.The forest as a whole is listed as a natural area of ecological interest for the variety of its flora and the diversity of its fauna, particularly its birdlife.
