Étang de la Provostière

Looking for nature and discovery? The Etang de la Provostière is the perfect place to relax and observe nature. A car park, picnic tables and toilets are available at the start of the loop!

The Provostière lake is a remarkable natural site, part of an ecological complex classified Natura 2000. If you're a keen observer, you'll spot many migratory birds, ducks, geese and swans. Take a stroll on your own, with your family or friends, and you'll discover a rich and interesting world of plants and animals. Access to picnic tables and sanitary facilities makes this a great place to relax.

A signposted 5.5 km path with a bird observatory leads around the pond in around 1? hours. At the bird observatory, you can see a large number of birds, including kingfishers, black-headed gulls, herring gulls, cormorants, great crested grebes, grey herons, egrets and moorhens.

This 80-hectare lake is also a fisherman's paradise! This particularly rich environment is home to a number of heritage species, including the common water-willow and the lake littorella. Fishing at the Etang de la Provostière is subject to the general regulations of the AAPPMA "Amicale des Pêcheurs de Riaillé" and is suitable for people with reduced mobility (there is a disabled fishing pontoon). Fishing cards are available from the Auberge de l'écluse (La Provostière) and the Café des Sports in Riaillé town centre (17 place de l'Eglise). Calling all anglers!
