GALERIE LA GATERIE

La Gâterie was founded in 2010 to promote and disseminate contemporary art in all its forms. The venue is run by the Transversale association, which pools resources, networks and skills. Its members, who come from the visual arts, music, micro-publishing and DIY scenes, wanted to combine their interests to promote a wider contemporary scene that is resolutely focused on experimentation.

La Gâterie is located on the outskirts of Les Halles in La Roche-sur-Yon. With its original format of showcases open to the outside world and the public space, La Gâterie has established itself as an atypical venue in the field of visual arts in the Pays de la Loire region. Anchored in the Yonnais region, it is constantly looking for sensitive ways to link artistic practices and the public.

La Gâterie attaches particular importance to introducing people to the visual arts, notably through a wider range of mediation and communication activities (schools, extra-curricular activities). Workshops for children are offered throughout the year, and a specialised collection of graphic art works gives access to on-site consultation of works such as artists' books, fanzines and micro-publications, representative of the diversity of current editorial creation.

The association is developing a number of partnerships, notably with Graffiti Urban Radio (radio interviews) and with the Art et Essai cinema Le Concorde for film programmes linked to current exhibitions.

La Gâterie also organises annual off-site events: the In-Ouïe festival, which focuses on the sound arts every year during the national sound week, and the Papelard festival, dedicated to micro-publishing and printmaking.

La Gâterie has been supported from the outset by the town of La Roche-sur-Yon, as well as by the DRAC Pays de la Loire and the Pays de la Loire Region for several years.
