Presentation of: JARDIN DUMAINE

This 4ha garden, given to the town in 1872 by Pierre Hyacinthe Dumaine at the same time as the buildings that today are home to the town hall and free access for visitors according to Mr Dumaine's wishes.
The alley of yews leading to the green theater from 1830. A few meters from there, an octogonal pond and music kiosk built in 1907 thanks to Julien David, offer a refreshing and welcome area for visitors. A little further down, there is a lake, a grotto and its rock garden. At the end of the different alleys, there is a large grassy area decorated with topiary art for some and for others, La Fontaine's fables. There is also an orangery to top it all off.
Remarkable trees, lined up trees, shrubs, perennial plants and annual flowers make this garden charming. All year long, the Garden and the theater have many events going on.
From the name of Pierre Hyacinthe Dumaine that handed down the properties in LUçon : his house to welcome the town hall and the land to become a public and free garden. In over 4.5ha of greenery, streches a French and British style garden, pond, belvedere, fountain, wood...Pierre Hyacinthe Dumaine was born on June 2nd 1790, went to medical school in Paris but became more than just a doctor, he wanted to make the life conditions in Luçon better. The park has different elements to it : first of all, in the East, it is a regular garden, in the same axe as the town hall and the Pierre-Hyacinthe Dumaine monument, there is an alley of yews, a green theatre, a bower. Then, there is a special garden in the South-West, with a octogonal pond and a fountain, a music kiosk, a belvedere leading onto a landscaped garden. You can find in this garden : a landscaped garden with many diffent alleys, a water fountain, a rustic pond, an artificial grotto with a water fall, a water tower and a large grassy area decorated with La Fontaine's fables, and down the Saint François alley, an orangery.
