Le Logis et le Bois du Fenestreau
The Logis du Fenestreau is a former shipowner's residence.
This noble residence was built in the 16th century by the Bouhier family, shipowners in the port of Les Sables d'Olonne, and became the home of the Lords of Olonne from 1683 until the Revolution.
Seized in 1793, it was used as a military barracks (for Republican troops) and a prison, before passing through the hands of a number of owners.
It was rebuilt by one of them, Jean-Baptiste de Loynes de la Coudraye, who became the owner in 1843.
4 more owners followed before the dwelling was finally bought by Henri Colins in 1888.
This local councillor, who became Mayor of Château d'Olonne in 1900, was also a Member of Parliament for the Vendée in 1924.
Henri Colins lived in the house until 1933.
The dwelling was then passed down from generation to generation in the Colins family until 2020, when it was acquired by the town of Les Sables d'Olonne as part of the "Plan Forêt Climat 2050".
Nowadays, you can see it from the outside and take a walk in the Fenestreau woods, a green setting dotted with magnificent hundred-year-old oaks, chestnut trees, hornbeams, lime trees and beech trees.
The grounds of the Logis du Fenestreau cover 25 hectares.
