Châteauceaux was a very large fortress overlooking the Loire between Angers and Nantes. The medieval ruins are a pleasant and romantic setting for a walk signposted with historical information and with views of the river.

Ancient walled city, the citadel of Champtoceaux was destroyed in 1420 by the Duke of Brittany. It remains as a vestige 2 entrance towers and the ruins of the old stronghold. These vestiges offer visitors a very nice ride in a rich and mysterious place. This walled city covering 30 hectares. Only the stately part is now available. This historic site offers walkers a beautiful course. It allows them to discover the ruins of the citadel (dungeon, chapel St Pierre, cistern, vaulted cellar, drawbridge) and a magnificent view of the Loire Valley. The tumultuous history of this site reference to the different fortresses of the Marches of Brittany and the kingdom of France.
