FORT DE PIERRE LEVEE

Above the town of Port Joinville, surrounded by woods, the fortress was erected between 1858 and 1866. From 1871 onwards, the stronghold was used as a barracks one moment and as a state prison the next. Marechal Pétain was imprisoned here from 1945 to 1951.
