MAISON DES ECRIVAINS DE LA MER

In the heart of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, facing the sea, discover a literary site, the Maison des Écrivains de la Mer and a library open to the sea.

The Maison des écrivains de la mer was founded by René Moniot-Beaumont. The aim of this cultural site is to bring together and showcase maritime literature. Each year an exhibition devoted to a written theme from the world of the sea is held here.

This museum, library (some books can be borrowed), reading room and interpretation centre opened its doors in 2005. It is located right in the heart of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, on the edge of the square Loïc Rostu and not far from the famous Tour Joséphine. Here you'll find books by authors from France and elsewhere who have been inspired by the maritime world.

More generally, this house is dedicated to all writers, friends of seafarers, ships, ocean voyages and literature.

Once again, under the "Quart de Nuit" label, you'll find lectures on a theme linked to maritime or literary life.

Two exhibitions: On the Port la Vie site, the adventures of Gilles Belmonte, a fictional hero of the Napoleonic wars at sea, are presented.
