Église Saint-Aubin - Pouancé

The church of Saint-Aubin overlooks the village and pond of Saint-Aubin and is situated 1 km from Pouancé and its medieval castle.

At the gateway to Brittany, the village of Saint-Aubin pre-existed that of Pouancé. Around 1110, the bishop of Angers, Renaud III de Martigné, gave the church of Saint-Aubin to the abbey of Marmoutier (near Tours). Its monks set up a priory near the enclosure, in the Madeleine chapel. In 1640, Saint-Aubin church was refurbished to accommodate the large number of clergy who served there.
In the 19th century, the building was adorned with an altarpiece depicting the Assumption of the Virgin (by Delavente) and decorated with murals, which were recently renovated.
Today, the church has a quality label and is open all year round.
