EGLISE SAINT RÉMY - PIZIEUX

Pizieux, a village in the Saosnois region, has a beautiful church dedicated to Saint Rémy.

The church of Saint Rémy de Pizieux dates back to the 12th century, but was altered in the 15th and 19th centuries.
Rectangular in plan, it has a single nave and a straight chevet, lit by three bays grouped together or triplet, obscured by the altarpiece and its altar.
It was extended in the 15th and 16th centuries by two chapels to the north and south.
The nave vault is panelled and the walls are of rendered rubble stone. While the entire building is covered in tiles, the bell tower is slate.
It has a number of remarkable features, including
- a stone Pieta (16th or 17th century)
- a stone Christ on the Cross and Saint Anne (16th century)
- a stone equestrian statue of Saint Martin (15th century)

The special feature of the church is its stained glass windows. Eight of them were created by a contemporary artist, Michel Madore, and the stained-glass artist is Michel Ducreux.
