EGLISE SAINT REMY - MAROLLES LES BRAULTS
A remarkable church built in the 11th century.
Built in the 11th century, the walls of the nave have been preserved from this period. The side chapels (15th century) have flamboyantly decorated windows. In the 17th century, the building was raised by an impressive bell tower. In the 17th century, thanks to its parish priest (François Engoulvent), the church underwent a number of transformations, including a sumptuous décor commissioned from renowned artists. The parish priest financed some of the furnishings, including the choir altarpiece with the Deploration of Christ (terracotta by Manceau sculptor Charles Hoyau).
The tufa altarpiece in the choir (listed building) was built by Mance architect Henri Guillaune in 1631. Above it is a curious painting of the baptism of Clovis (listed building). There is also a terracotta statue of St Francis of Assisi dating from 1635, a statue of St John (early 17th century) and a 15th-century stone statue of St Remy. Another artist from Mance, Josias Crémière, created the two side altarpieces in tufa.
The Virgin of the Rosary in the north chapel is by François Salé, a painter from Mance.
The monumental organ (listed building) dates from 1766 and was donated by Abbé Loriot de la Barde.
