ÉGLISE SAINT JOUIN DE MARNES - NOGENT LE BERNARD
Dedicated to St Jouin, the church is only mentioned at the end of the 11th century. The building was fortified during the Wars of Religion. Gunboats (some pivoting) were added, as well as an underground refuge.
You can see one of these as you walk around the church. You can also admire the gargoyles and the magnificent carved capitals on either side of the portal.
Inside, don't miss the keystones and carved capitals. The building has a wealth of furnishings, including a headless sculpture holding a book, the origin and significance of which remain a mystery.
