EGLISE NOTRE-DAME-DE-BONNES-NOUVELLES

19th century church

In the church at La Chevallerais, with its characteristic slate bell tower, you'll find a 15th-century bell from the former Bout de Bois abbey, one of the oldest in the département.
The church also houses the polychrome statuette of "Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle". During the tragic events of the Revolution, the chapel built on the present site of the church was burnt down, and the statuette was saved from the fire by a soldier who entrusted it to a little girl...
An oratory has been erected near the church in memory of this event.
