Chapelle de l'Oratoire

Former chapel of the Collège de l'Oratoire, now the Lycée Montesquieu, in Le Mans.

The Chapelle de l'Oratoire was built between 1675 and 1683. It is the only surviving church from this period. The chapel is typical of the 17th century, with its nave without side aisles, barrel vaults and short transept. It was listed as a historic monument in its entirety in 1982. Disused in 1991, it underwent major restoration work. The two remaining highlights are a remarkable 18th-century organ and the magnificent 17th-century baldachin on the high altar.

Open only during concerts and Heritage Days.
