PHARE DE PAIMBOEUF
The lighthouse was built in 1854, according to the plans of the Phares et Balises (Lighthouses and Beacons). Measuring 7.17 metres high and 2.20 metres in diameter, it was built from painted granite ashlar. Designed for night beaconing of the Loire estuary, it went into service on 16 January 1855. It was electrified in 1913 and fitted with 8/4 horizon optics. Its light signal could be seen for more than 15 kilometres.
The Paimbœuf lighthouse is located 10 kilometres from the coast, making it the only French lighthouse built so far inland and the only lighthouse on the Loire estuary. The lighthouse was commissioned just as Paimboeuf was losing its status as the outer port of Nantes to Saint-Nazaire, but today it still bears witness to the maritime vocation of the Loire town and continues to perform its function.
As the guardian of our riverbanks, it is undoubtedly one of the symbols of the town, and the star of our social networks!
