LA DUNE GRISE DE SION - DUNE FIXÉE

The grey dune at Sion is home to rare and protected plants. It's fragile, so let's respect it!

The Grey Dune at Sion is also known as the Fixed Dune. It lies behind the white dune. Its extensive plant cover prevents the wind from transporting the sand. Dunes are a precious natural heritage. As natural dams, their protection is essential. It's up to all of us to be vigilant and respectful.
To avoid trampling the many remarkable plant species on the Sion grey dune, the paths are marked out. Species recorded:
- Dune carnation (Dianthus gallicus Pers.), family Caryophyllaceae, which is protected nationally. This perennial plant has short, almost flat, three-veined leaves. Its flowers are pink and fragrant and the petals are close together and divided into strips.
- Field asparagus (Alyssum minus L.), which is protected at regional level.
- Asparagus prostrate (Aspargus officinalis L.)
- Broad-leaved wormwood (Armeria alliacea)
- Sea Holly (Eryngium maritum L.)
