Boires de la Rompure et de la Nigaudière

The boires are a whimsical feature of the river that characterise the landscapes along the banks of the Loire. These pools of water are home to an incredible biodiversity.

A boire is an old branch of the Loire that is only supplied with water during flood periods. They are regularly found along the major river bed. The origin of the word boire is thought to come from the patois "boëre" (a water hole for animals to "boëre" in).

A 2.5 km interpretation trail has been created to raise awareness of biodiversity and its conservation.
If you're a keen observer, you'll be able to spot the common fritillary in May, the emperor ptarmigan in June, the small carnivorous plant, the yellow-flowered bladderwort from June to July, as well as the magnificent ash-blue insect, the alpine rosalie.
And you're sure to spot one of the countless moorhens that make the site so charming.
