Le Mans Museum of Archaeology and History.

The Museum of Archaeology and History is located in the heart of Le Mans, where the Plantagenet City meets the new town.
Opened in June 2009, the museum is an open, welcoming space that combines resolutely contemporary architecture with the preservation of the old Monnoyer printing works, now renovated.
Visitors to the museum can explore the history of the Sarthe region from prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages in five chapters, each divided into a different theme:
- Prehistory
- Protohistory
- Gallo-Roman times
- The Early Middle Ages
- Medieval Maine
With a wealth of archaeological objects, some of which have been preserved since the 19th century or as a result of excavations carried out in the area since the 1970s, visitors can discover how our ancestors lived. Highlights include the treasure trove of Cenoman coins discovered on the banks of the Huisne in 1997, the Venus of Rextugenos, the glass drinking horn, the shroud of Saint Bertrand, the treasure trove of Coëffort and the Plantagenet enamel.
The educational tour is punctuated by models, drawings, archaeological books, interactive terminals and scenographic areas.
With its auditorium, activity rooms and documentation centre, the museum is a place for everyone in the heart of the city of Manche.
