Jardins de la Victoire
The Victoire public garden was originally designed in the French style and has a surface area of 4,527 square metres (1,743 square metres for the central part). It is located on the platform of the former railway station and features a bandstand and a merry-go-round. The town council named the public garden on 22 January 1928, to remind future generations of the successful conclusion of the Great War.
In 2017, the Victoire garden underwent major works as part of the redevelopment of the Victoire district (see www.labaule.fr for details).
The former sunken garden, lined with low walls and difficult to cross, has been redesigned and levelled to make it easier for pedestrians to cross and to open up the view from the entrance to the town and connect with the avenues that run alongside it.
The existing lime tree plantations, which form the mall bordering the garden and where the petanque areas are located, have been preserved.
In the centre, a succession of gardens has been created; a play area, a recreational area with water jets operating on recycled water, the merry-go-round which has been refocused, garden rectangles in the image of the flowerbeds on the station forecourt, the kiosk and the war memorial all contribute to punctuating the garden.
The paving is in keeping with the culture of La Baule: granite paving stones, stabilised paving stones and grass-covered concrete paving stones, benches and free automatic toilets.
