Le château de Noirbreuil

At the end of a long straight road bordered by forest, the Noirbreuil estate gradually takes shape between the old oak trees: 17 hectares of plains, meadows and woods, with its pond, chapel and, of course, its château built at the end of the 19th century.

History of Château de Noirbreuil

Château de Noirbreuil was built in 1878 (or 1879). This large building belonged to the Levesque du Rostu family.
The manor house was transformed into a hospital during the 1914-1918 war, when the population was asked to provide sheets to bandage the wounded.


Leisure centre for all

From 1954, the manor belonged to the Saint-Gobain company, which transformed it into a holiday camp for employees' children.

In 1977, the property was acquired by the Apalos association a few months after its creation, from the Saint-Gobain works council. The château was converted into a leisure centre.
This Nantes-based association was set up in 1976 by the works councils of five social organisations in Nantes (CAF, CPAM, the Comité des oeuvres sociales de la Ville de Nantes, etc.), with the aim of offering sporting and cultural leisure activities accessible to all, with a focus on social inclusion. Children will be able to go horse-riding, take part in an acrobatic course in the trees, ride motorbikes, rub shoulders with animals, etc.
No longer able to run the château, the site was sold in 2017.


Reception venue

Since 2018, the château has been owned by Magali and Franck Bérieau, who will be carrying out work to give it a facelift and enable events to be organised on the premises. The site also houses a stable.

A little extra: the château can be hired for business or private events: La salle des Grands Chênes or Les Salons du Château.
