ENS des prairies de Cherré et du camp gallo-romain

The Espace Naturel Sensible des prairies de Cherré et du camp gallo-romain d'Aubigné-Racan is a site that combines a rich archaeological heritage with remarkable ecological diversity.

This 15-hectare site, owned by the Conseil Départemental, is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including around thirty of the 50 species of cricket found in the Sarthe. Other species, such as the small gravelot - which can be seen from April to June - have taken advantage of the presence of humans by using the Gallo-Roman remains as a nesting area. From the interpretation trail, you can explore these remains dating from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD: temple, market, forum, theatre, baths, etc.

In order to keep the area open and respect the biological cycle of the flowers and insects present, the site is mown late in the summer. Some meadows are also grazed under an agreement between the Département and a farmer.
